Electrical Control Panel Builder

Position Summary:
The Electrical Control Panel Builder is responsible for the precise fabrication of high-quality electrical control panels using drawings, schematics, and hand tools to effectively complete product assembly to exact specifications. The ideal candidate will have experience with control panel fabrication/build, component layout, and wiring in the manufacturing, conveyor and/or water/wastewater industry.
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Assemble and wire electrical control panels, junction boxes, assembly enclosures and sub-assemblies
  • Connect wires between individual component leads and other components, connectors, terminals, and contact points
  • Complete point-to-point wiring and the installation of a wide variety of electronic components including PLC’s, relays, lights, switches, terminals, etc.
  • Cut wire to specified lengths and route, comb, twist, wrap, tie, and attach wire to terminal points
  • Position and align parts in specified relationship to each other using mechanical drawings and layouts
  • Mount assembled control components, such as transformers, control relays, circuit breakers, drives, power supplies, on chassis panel using crimps, screws, bolts, rivets, solder, or perform similar operations to join or secure parts in place, using hand tools, power tools, and automation equipment
  • Perform in-production inspections, conduct functional and continuity tests of electrical assemblies, components, wire harnesses, and plugs, using a multimeter, test lights, and other electrical testing instruments to ensure parts and assemblies meet specifications and standards
  • Read and interpret schematic drawings, diagrams, blueprints, specifications, work orders, bills of material, or handwritten notes or verbal instruction to determine materials requirements or assembly instructions
  • Work with engineers and customers to test finished product to verify conformance to specifications
  • Reconcile material lists against Bills of Material and communicate shortages
  • Markup drawings and Bills of Material to document the “as-built” final product
  • Perform necessary hand operations such as deburring, drilling, grinding & sawing and operate hand pallet jacks to move material as needed
  • Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities & reading technical publications.
  • Maintain a clean, organized and safe work area
  • Assist with Shipping & Receiving of job material/parts and inspection/packaging of final product
  • Engrave/print tags for enclosures, back plates and wires using computer software
  • Help to assist with other projects during downtime
Education, Experience, and Skills Required:
  • High school diploma and at least 3 years of experience assembling and wiring control panels
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to operate miscellaneous powered and manual tools
  • Motivated, detail oriented and the ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Basic math and computer skills
  • Familiar with basic electrical concepts/theories and the proper use and functions of an electrical multimeter
  • Ability to read and understand electrical schematics/wiring diagrams and mechanical layouts
  • Knowledge of electromechanical and automation equipment such as circuit breakers, relays, lights, switches, motor starters, contactors, etc.
  • Rockwell/Allen Bradley product knowledge and experience a plus

We are the Controls & Automation subsidiary of an electrical contractor looking for an experienced Electrical Control Panel Builder/Wireman.

Job Type: Full-time Union

Schedule: 7am-3:30pm, Monday-Friday, overtime as required
